If you summarized the Metal Gear series, you probably wouldn’t use the words “Normal” or “Predictable.” Many gamers love the series for its story, which is so complex and bizarre that breaking the fourth wall is just the start of its weirdness. Sometimes we complain that zombies are overexposed in popular culture, but let’s be honest: blowing the head off a rotting shambler with a double-barrelled shotgun never gets old. I recently had this experience on Wii U with Ubisoft’s launch title ZombiU. It brought a smile to my face to watch that ghoul fall to the ground, a clear foot shorter. Seven years ago Batman Begins broke the curse of Batman, rescuing us from neon Gotham and nipple-suited hell. The Dark Knight Rises has broken another curse: the curse of the third film, which has stained everything from Superman to The Godfather. Does it top The Dark Knight? It’s difficult to look at The Amazing Spider-Man with fresh eyes. For better or worse, any reboot of Spidey’s story has to stand next to the Sam Raimi movies and face the comparison. I happen to like those movies a lot; Spider-Man 2 has some of the best superhero versus supervillain battles ever put on film. I even like parts of Spider-Man 3. The Amazing Spider-Man does suffer from the fact that Sam Raimi did it first and now Spider-Man’s tricks don’t feel quite as a special, but there are a few things that this movie does better.

Sooo…. I finally have Kinect.

Thanks to tradeshows (and visits with my nieces) I’ve managed to play quite a few Kinect games without actually owning the Kinect sensor. Rise of Nightmares, Kinect Adventures, Star Wars Kinect… Now that I have my own, it’s time for my first Kinect review: Kinect Rush: A Disney/Pixar Adventure.

REVIEW–The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Posted: 24th January 2012 by Jason MacIsaac in Game, PC, PlayStation 3, Review, Xbox 360

Skyrim can be very glitchy in places and they really should have turned off friendly fire for Destruction spells. I’ve wasted a few townspeople who won’t clear the line of fire when I’m trying to take out a dragon. Okay, now that I’ve got those nitpicks out of the way, the rest of Skyrim is pure gold.

Yeah, it’s brilliant. If you are a fan of Batman, owning Batman: Arkham City is as essential as owning a copy of The Long Halloween and The Dark Knight.
