REVIEW–The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim can be very glitchy in places and they really should have turned off friendly fire for Destruction spells. I’ve wasted a few townspeople who won’t clear the line of fire when I’m trying to take out a dragon. Okay, now that I’ve got those nitpicks out of the way, the rest of Skyrim is pure gold.

Yeah, it’s brilliant. If you are a fan of Batman, owning Batman: Arkham City is as essential as owning a copy of The Long Halloween and The Dark Knight.

"We're gonna need a bigger boat."

Now that Gears of War 3 has been out for awhile, I’d like to address two points. One, to everyone on Xbox Live: stop bowing out of my game session when I’m trying to beat level 50 in Horde mode. Two: I want to discuss a major plot point of the game.

Toronto fans recite the Green Lantern Oath at the launch of the Blu-ray.

According to Box Office Mojo, Green Lantern grossed about $219 million. Since its production budget was estimated at $200 million, that has to be a major disappointment for Warner Bros. and DC. It might even jeopardize the possibility of a sequel. A shame, because though it was flawed, I liked the movie and really think there’s something to build on here. Now that the Blu-ray of the Extended Cut has arrived, you can get a clearer picture of what the filmmakers were aiming for.

REVIEW–Crimson Alliance

Before I commence with this review of Crimson Alliance, let’s all observe a moment of silence in tribute to the man who created the modern dungeon crawl, Dave Arneson. Thank you Dave. Your contributions to gaming are immeasurable. Crimson Alliance is one such game descended from Arneson’s idea: a dungeon crawl with some of the flavour of Gauntlet and Diablo.

So, a Wizard, a Warrior and an Assassin walk into a dungeon…

One of the most appealing things that the first three X-Men movies did (yes, even The Last Stand) was establish the relationship between Magneto and Professor X. Since the first X-Men film, it was clear that both men had tremendous respect for each other. They were enemies, yes, but reluctant enemies. X-Men: First Class expands on that odd friendship/rivalry and lays the groundwork for the series in a creative, consistent way. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a prequel do things this well.
